Jeep boss Mike Manley said that the company is looking 'very closely' at a possible subcompact SUV at the recently concluded Detroit Motor Show.

Design
The Jeep Sub Compact SUV will be under four metres to reach that tax bracket and be priced competitively. The lights and bumpers could be similar to the Jeep Renegade that is sold internationally. It will also have a high ground clearance and good road presence as is a must with Jeep cars. The interiors will also be made of high-quality materials as is seen with the Compass. Jeep Sub Compact SUV engine
The engines of this car will be the ones seen in the FCA family. The car could be made available with the same 1.4-litre turbo petrol as is seen on the Compass. Although this engine could come in a slightly detuned form as well and develop lesser power. The SUV will be offered with a diesel engine as well since there is a huge demand for diesel SUVs in our market. The Jeep Sub Compact SUV could also be having a variant available with a four-wheel-drive which will be a first in its segment. The car could also get an electric powertrain as Jeep is focussing on those as well now.

Jeep Sub Compact SUV pricing
This new SUV will be priced competitively. It will also be available in a range of variants to make the price point broader. The Jeep Sub Compact SUV is expected to be priced from Rs 7 – 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). Although these are not the confirmed prices. The car will compete with the likes of the Maruti Brezza and the Hyundai Venue. Volkswagen and Skoda are also developing India specific products called the Taigun and the Vision In respectively that will sit in the same segment as this car. Meanwhile, there are also reports of the company launching a seven-seater Jeep Compass next year.
Consumer Reports Best Subcompact Suv
Jeep has planned a range of new SUVs for the Indian market including a 7-seater SUV, a mid-size SUV (Renegade) and a subcompact SUV. The new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be based on the updated Compass that recently went on sale in the country. Slated to launch in the second half of 2021, the model will be positioned against the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and MG Gloster.
The upcoming Jeep mid-size SUV will take head-to-head against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, while the new sub-4 meter SUV will rival Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue. Both models are expected to hit Indian roads sometime next year (2022). Speaking to Autocar, Partha Datta, President and Managing Director, FCA India, has hinted that the upcoming Jeep subcompact SUV might be designed on PSA’s CMP (Common Modular Platform).

The same architecture will underpin the new Citroen C21 compact SUV that’s due for early next year. The CMP platform will be produced with over 90% locally sourced components that will help the carmaker meet the tight cost targets. PSA’s CMP platform, however, doesn’t support the 4X4 drivetrain. Besides platform, Jeep might use locally sourced engine for its upcoming compact SUV. It could be offered with 1.2L turbocharged petrol motor that will also power the Citroen C21.
