  1. Top 10 Alternatives to VLC Media Player. VLC Media Player, developed by VideoLAN, is a free and open-source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that supports to play most multimedia files and streaming videos, and you can free download VLC player for Windows/Mac easily.
  2. From VideoLAN Wiki Jump to navigation Jump to search This is an howto to compile VLC media player on macOS (formerly known as Mac OS X), focused on VLC 3.0 and later.

VideoLAN Movie Creator is a video editing application based on libVLC, the core engine and interface that forms the basis of the popular VLC media player. The latter is praised for its simplicity and versatility, as it can handle pretty much every available format.

The editing application being covered in this review aims to stick to the same principles, so as to provide a powerful and intuitive video editing solution. However, VideoLAN Movie Creator is still in the early stages of development and needs a lot more work before it can become a reliable option.

VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any Mac with a 64-bit Intel processor or an Apple Silicon chip. Previous devices are supported by older releases. Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs equipped with Core Solo or Core Duo processors is no longer supported. “C: Program Files VideoLAN VLC vlc.exe” –reset-config. If you want to reset all the settings every time you run your VLC Media Player then you can add it to the shortcut you have on your desktop. You can create a shortcut with your window right click options. Add “–reset-config” without quotes to the end of the text field as shown.

Streamlined interface that can be customized to a great degree

VideoLAN Movie Creator’s user interface is well designed, despite being somewhat outdated. It consists of multiple panels that can be resized, moved, eliminated or even detached from the main window.

You can add clips from the media list directly to the timeline, insert visual filters from the included library and preview the project before it is exported. However, it is difficult to scroll through the imported videos, and the available effects are not categorized in any way.

Includes a helpful project creation wizard, but has limited export capabilities

VideoLAN Movie Creator can help you get started by providing a basic set of instructions related to your project’s core settings, so you can be certain the right resolution, frame rate, sample rate and channel mode are selected. You can also specify the project’s location and the workspace directory.

Unfortunately, when it comes to exporting your work, VideoLAN Movie Creator can only save the output video locally, as an AVI file, or encode it to MP4 and upload it directly to YouTube.

Videolan

Promising video editing application that still needs a lot more polish

Overall, VideoLAN Movie Creator is not what we would call disappointing, as the lack of features is understandable at this stage in the development process.

However, even though the foundation is good, the VideoLAN Movie Creator app is not particularly useful in its current state, so we can only wait for future updates and hope they bring some much-needed improvements.

You can also change the default in the Preferences.

However, you can also launch more than one interface:

Videolan Vlc For Mac

This will launch VLC with the default Qt interface, but will also launch the SAP, telnet and web interface in addition to the Qt one. The default for this can also be changed in the preferences.

Note that if you only use the dummy interface, you won't be able to tell vlc to quit (except watching a video). You may have to break it manually with Ctrl+C; or use vlc://quit as the last item on the playlist.
